A Benn mini-bungle
I have spotted a small, though not insignificant, error in the book. On page 111 it reads:
“A letter in 1975 from Tony Benn, a British member of parliament, to Chancellor Dennis Healey, about a tax conference in Jersey, gives a flavour:”
But it should read
“A constituent’s letter forwarded and endorsed by Tony Benn, a British member of parliament, to Chancellor Dennis Healey, about a tax conference in Jersey, gives a flavour:”
I trace this mistake back to an editing error I made between July and September of last year. The July version had it correct, but as I crunched the text down to shorten it I seem to have made this mistake, or at least it’s misleading. The next chapter draft, in September contained this mistake. As I said, it’s a small but not insignificant error. (It was corrected in yesterday’s Guardian story.)
Apologies to Tony Benn for any misunderstandings – hopefully he won’t notice anyway!

I hope this error will be corrected in the next edition. 🙂
It already has, for the reprint . . .
