Guardian: Britain is ruled by the banks, for the banks

Posted by: Nick Shaxson in: Thoughts

That headline is drawn from a new Guardian article, which everyone should read. It does two main things for me. First, it highlights the nonsense that is peddled about the “contribution” that the City of London makes to the UK.

Second, it highlights the new book from Manchester University’s Centre for Research on Socio-Cultural Change (Cresc). Entitled After the Great Complacence, it is written in language that is a little too academic for my tastes, but nevertheless it makes up for that in the force of its content. I am half way through it, and I can already see that it makes a major contribution to the debate about finance in Britain. Anyone interested in this subject should read it.

But for now, read the Guardian article.

Link to the Manchester University book seems to be broken.
